I'm Looking For A Business Partner. Could That Be You? After
more than 25 years in business, I'm looking for a partner. This partner
will not be a paid employee but rather will share in the growth and
profits of this business.
Why Am I Doing This Now?
Let's get right to the big question - why am I looking for a business partner? There are three main reasons.
First, as most of you probably know, 14 years ago Mary and I started a non-profit dog rescue organization - AuntMarysDoghouse.com. We take in any dog that needs help, rehabilitate it and find it a new permanent home. Five years ago we tremendously expanded our operation and set up a dog sanctuary on 25 acres of land I bought. With that growth, the time I spend with the dogs has also tremendously increased. My passion is with our dog work and I want to spend even more time working with them. Second, I was recently offered a teaching position at a local college. For 15 years I taught at a university in the town in which we used to live. When we moved to our current home and set up the sanctuary, I had to leave teaching. The school was just too far away. Not a day passed that I didn't miss teaching. So, when this opportunity came up, I jumped at it. I'll be teaching microbiology, anatomy & physiology, etc. (Bet you thought my education and background was in business and public relations. Nope. It's in science and medicine.) Third, very frankly, after 25+ years in the business, I've grown a bit tired. There are things I still love to do, but there are other things that are my weaknesses. I'll go more into detail about those below. My ideal partner will be strong where I am weak. What Am I Looking For In A Partner?
The person I am looking for will have the following skills and abilities:
What Am I Willing To Do?
I
want to be clear about one thing - I still love this business and I
want it to grow. So I don't simply want to hand it off to someone and
walk away. I will be working closely with my partner and I'm willing to
do the following:
Additional Important Information
I want to be very clear about several things:1 - This is NOT an internship. I have no interest in "teaching someone the business". You should bring solid, documentable business skills to the table. I'm bringing 25+ years of proven success, a deep product line, a well-known brand, a very well established business, etc. 2 - There will be an opportunity to "buy in" to the equity growth in my business. I'll explain that further to people who are possible candidates to be my partner. But I'd like my partner to be able to share in both the profits and the equity growth. 3 - I will not follow up with "tire kickers". This is a very serious business arrangement. I have no interest in giving information to unqualified people who want to "find out what it's all about". What Should You Do If You're Interested?
Your first step should be to send me a brief email outlining what you can bring to the table. I will follow up with all serious replies. In this first round if it seems like there may be some chemistry there, we'll go into more detail. That's it for now. Let's see who steps up. |
